Coil is cool. I'd learn the finer points of operating a video camera, though.

if you increase the overall timing of the circuit and reach a much higher resonant frequency... say somewhere in the low MHz band, you should get more interesting effects. Then if you build another coil that is in tune with the first, you could wirelessly x-fer and capture the energy via electrostatic impulses. That would be cool too :P Then if you could modulate the impulses, you could send data and power in the same broadcast ;) Also cool!

Do we care that we're witnessing the breakdown of molecules in the air? Your electric field is liberating and then mobilizing electrons in air molecules. what are you trying to accomplish?

The reasons your coil ain't working is because you're clearly not in resonance, you cap is too small, making a larger secondary is gonna make this worse You are waaaayy over coupled and have also chosen to use helical primary which makes tuning harder as it has very narrow 'sweet spot'. the recipe for a good coil design is to pick the ideal cap for the power supply you have and work backwards. Oh year, your torroid is WAAAYYYY too small....
A fan or vac on the spark gap also really helps..

This is the first Tesla Coil I ever made. The main problems with the setup was the tank circuit wiring being too small/extended, thus having too much resistance, and the toroid having too many sharp points. Yes, it was not in resonance in this video either. However the maximum streamer length I was able to obtain from this setup was a little over a foot length. If you check my newer videos I have built a very professional spark gap coil. It creates streamers over two feet long with the same NST.

hi i was wondering why you have resistors over your capacitors, im guessing they are there so that you are sure there is no remaining charge after use?

Yes, the resistors are there to discharge the entire MMC setup after use. I've heard it also takes strain off the first few capacitors in series.

nice one. i like the streamers

Glad you like the streamers. Check out my newest Tesla Coil video. Streamer lengths more than doubled with my new setup... The coil also occasionally produces floating streamers, which is rare, especially for a spark gap Tesla Coil.
