I had a Pedco UltraClamp mount with a camera on it attached to a support rod in the cockpit of an 8KCAB for some cockpit camera videos.

Here are the acrobatic maneuvers I did in order (because it's a little hard to tell if you're unfamiliar with the stunts):
Aileron Roll
Loop
Hammerhead
Barrel Roll

I posted a few other videos already, but I thought this one was pretty cool. I was flying away from the sun on this run and it made kind of a cool effect.

  • could i do this in my 172, i've done a hammerhead but i have never tried a aileron roll i heard you can do that maneuver in almost any aircraft cause it is a 1g maneuver

  • @micahmx85 Before someone starts a flame war, I thought I'd address this hoping that as the OP, I'll get enough clout to stop other commenters from saying things.

I'm not sure what country you fly, but in the United States it's illegal to do acrobatic maneuvers in aircraft not categorized to do so. Beyond that, the 172's POH tells you not to. I haven't flow a 172 in a while, but I don't recall an approved positive load of +3.5 G's which is the minimum I'll pull to do a hammerhead.

  • @micahmx85 Sorry, ran out of characters. They say that an aileron roll is a 1G maneuver, I think, largely because Tex Johnson said so. In a small piston plane like a Super D. you still need to pull several positive G's to get a good parabola through which to perform the roll. The 172 doesn't like this, doesn't have the inverted fuel system to support the 0G over the top, and isn't designed for the forces applied by the abrupt full aileron deflection.

  • Wish the camera was on something that would allow the student to see reference points to learn. But all we got is a minute 30 of seeing how well your shaver works.

  • @traffety Heh, good call traffety. The Decathlon I rent is now available for solo acro again (some kid name Juan over-g'd the thing and they stopped allowing acro for a few months). In any case, the reason you're staring at my face the whole time is because I didn't have a the guts to mount the camera on the struts . . . yet. I'm hoping to try that soon.

  • @tncbbthositg a 172 is certified to +4.4G/-1.76G in the utility category. to be certified in the acro category you need at least +6G/-3G... however, the 172 is approved for some aerobatic maneuvers but snap rolls is not on the list!

  • I think its really cool man. Feels good to be free doesn't it.

  • @tncbbthositg thanks for the advice i know that it is illegal but honestly every now and then i like to have a little fun fly low and fast ;) and at the airport i fly we don't have any aerobatic rated airplanes, and the 172 is only rated for about 2Gs on wing loading, so 60 degree bank is all you get when it comes to pulling some Gs, i push the limits safely even though that sounds naive, i have done some 0G parabolas before for fun and you can hold 0G for about 7seconds before engine sputter.

  • awsome video i really need to try the hammerhead.

  • I still hold some of these maneuvers with my Citabria! Congratulations!
