No Vaccine, No School for Alabama Students

As of last September, Alabama law requires 11 and 12 year olds to have a Tdap booster before registering for sixth grade this coming school year. However, some health officials are concerned parents aren't getting the message.

For about 5 and-a-half-hours today, the Jefferson County Health Department offered free Tdap booster shots for 11 and 12 year olds entering sixth grade. Less than 2 dozen showed up.

Nurse said to student, "Ouch... look at you, you're a big girl."

There were many big boys and girls who received their Tetanus, Diptheria and Pertussis shot today. As of last September it's state law. This years Alabama sixth graders must get this shot or they won't be allowed in school.

Immunization Manager, Deborah Kilgo said, "It's only 5 weeks until school starts. There is this Tdap vaccine that 6th graders must have in order to register for school."

Only at the Boutwell and only today, the Jefferson County Health Department offered these shots without charge.

So today's shots were free and if you missed it, you'll have to pay a minimum of 8 dollars at the health department or your copay at your primary physicians office for this tdap shot. It didn't hurt, just ask Jasmine Russell.

12 year old Jasmine Russell said, "At first I was going to cry, but then I just felt a little pinch, it didn't hurt that bad."

I say make the vacine available, but let people themselves decide and pay for it. The only problem is poor people who can't aford it, nutcases that believe vacines are a "conspiracy" and contagious deseases which could be eliminated and save society tons of time, money, and lives but don't because a small number of people pass under the radar.

there are 2 critical points that were not addressed whatsoever in this article: 1. what are the current rates of infection for these diseases? -is this really neccesary? 2. what adjuvants or preservatives or other crap is in this ? just doing a cursory search, i found the cases of tetanus in children in alabama is zero.~ an average of 43 cases annually for the entire US for all age ranges. (mostly older people get it) ~ and you are right about the spin in that article, darko...
