They did it because he's a black liberal, and yes, they wanted to 'shape history.' They were clearly working overtime to influence the election. CNN was Obama's mouthpiece and they ditched Hillary early in the primaries. I remember the coverage and was shocked by it. I expected them to ignore the GOP, which they basically did, but they barely covered Hillary more than they did the Republicans. My estimation was that Obama got 85% of CNN's primary coverage, if not higher.
