On Thursday, March 13, the local CTV station, as well as our student newspaper, the Cord, the Waterloo paper, The Record, and 570 News ran short pieces about the stalled CAS/WLU Admin negotiations. Questions were asked of WLU President Dr. Blouw, but he was unable to speculate as to whether there were any negotiations even taking place. I had some questions of my own, but was unable to attend the meeting. It's my understanding that Dr. Blouw's inability to speculate wouldn't have helped much. Shame, Dr. Blouw.

By March 15th, CAS voted 'yes' to authorize a strike that could legally begin on March 19th at midnight.

  • it's time to get revenge on the striking cockroaches

  • It's time for you to create another sock account so I can have fun counter-trolling you. Or you could at least make like craijona up there and try for engaging in actual discussion. I'm not really anticipating any out of you, though - your use of language tells me you belong in college, not university; and your arguments are so full of fail even the failboat just passed you by! And dude! If you're going to troll somebody, at least have an army of sock accounts ready. Yeesh!

  • Unblocked because you're too damn lazy to create even MOAR sock accounts to further your pathetic attempts at trolling. Come on back here. I was having fun, dammit.

  • If you actually look at the salaries and compensation, WLU is VERY competitive, and salaries are among the higest for the size of the university. Remember, it is the CAS FACULTY that chose to strike, not WLU. WLU admins. have offered a 9% increase over 3 years, and the CAS refused it. And do you know what? The more the CAS gets, the more our tuition rises. Look at the facts before looking at the propaganda.

  • Competitive with whom? Nippising? Trent? Are you serious right now, or are you just an articulate troll? Let's glance at UW at least long enough to say their CAS don't need a union - they're kept so content, they don't need to form one! Compare that with ours - and come now, we do pay a pretty penny in tuition as it is; yet class sizes continue to rise, and our profs become even harder to reach just because the amenities aren't good enough.

    BTW - I AM the propaganda ;)

  • I agree that the CAS staff need to renegotiate their deal. I don't believe the timing is fair for the students. Some of us are 4th year and there is a risk of many of our classes being cancelled for the year and have to repeat them in extreme cases. I don't agree with this strike's timing and both sides must get back to the bargaining table and be reasonable.

  • Couldn't have said it better myself ;) Let's hope both sides get back to negotiating and let's hope the admins listen to what the CAS have to say. This strike is really only gonna hurt us, an' I think Admin knows that (hey, if it makes them look bad, right?) ...dontcha just love politics?

  • I agree with the CAS, this is really nonsensical. It really bothers me that our university will prioritize replacing a symbol (the stupid hawk) over meeting the pleas of the part-time staff, which really keeps the place running.

I hope this strike ends, and that Dr. Blouw gets slapped around with a newspaper. I'm not talking the Kitchener Record or anything either, I'm talking newspaper as in the Toronto Sun.. something very thick to get through his equally thick skull.

    Thanks for your reply.

  • What does that say about our univesity administration after all? Isn't it embarassing that our univesity is the only one on strike? What kind of message does that send to the employers that are seeing "Wilfrid Laurier" on resumes??? These are all valid arguments that all go against the students and their academic credibility.
