I demonstrate the Tesla guitar setup and briefly explain how it works. This is the uncut version of the spot that appeared on MakeTV's Maker Channel. I built the Tesla coil and processing electronics myself, see http://scopeboy.com/tesla/drsstc/ for details

  • @florinbaiduc There's no Amplitube plugin (yet) but my Tesla coil is one of the instruments in Spectrasonics' Omnisphere softsynth. I think they made it sound better than the real one! :)

  • @RCAvhstape Yay! Finally someone got the Secret Life of Machines reference. I was about 12 when the show came out and I loved it.

  • lving the device dude.

out of inerest will any tesla coil produce sound as i only want a tiny tesla coil for testing/demostrating and cant afford a monster one

  • Yes, any size of (solid-state) tesla coil will produce sound, the bigger ones are just louder and more dangerous.

  • Engineering student and moderate guitar player, 2 questions. How much does this setup cost and have a schematic?

  • Here are some answers to people's questions in no particular order. :P

There are probably about $1k worth of parts in it if you bought them all new. Schematics, manuals and so on, at scopeboy.com/tesla/drsstc

  • Como se hace la bobina??

  • seek and destroy ftw

  • @aligatorsandwitch72 it would be fixed. too bad marconi beat him to the radio

  • Dude, you played Brubeck's Take Five, which was the theme song of the TV show "Secret Life of Machines", followed by Seek and Destroy, outstanding!

  • youre great

  • there needs to a steampunk band with this as an instrument.

  • It's a really cool project you did there... I'm sure it sounds better in reality than no youube, as the camera's mic was totally overwhelmed with the volume, and it adds a lot of distorsion itself.

I'm sure some heavy metal guy would make this really shine...I want a plugin for amplitube now :)))

Keep up the good work :).

  • @8andimpala As dangerous as they may be, the materials are perfectly legal, schematics are free, and owning / building one isn't regulated at all. In short, the government considers this less dangerous than half an ounce of marijuana.
