  • what size piping are you using.. is the dp and and cat stock?

  • I believe its 2 1/4 ID tubing. Everything else is stock, just chopped the muffler off ;-)

  • thanks dude. mine is an auto. but i'll bet you could still hear the turbo. we can sure hear yours. i think it will have a little more power. is it louder when you drive?

  • Right after I did the mufflerectomy I noticed a slightly louder low-pitch tone when I had the windows down and going 25mph or so. Other than that, with the windows up you can't really notice anything. Now that I've been driving around with it for several months I don't notice anything ;-)

  • all you did was cut off the muffler? sounds cool.

  • Thanks! Yep, just cut the old muffler off with a recip. saw and clamped on a couple sections of pipe from autozone that I had painted black to prevent rust. I did this earlier this year and it still looks and sounds great! The best part is the turbo woosh when shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd!

  • Will This only work on VWs? I have a turbo diesel corsa and was wondering if i'd get similar sound?

  • My Exhaust on my 98 Jetta TdI kept rusting and breaking at certain parts, in the end I did the mufflerectomy (not because I wanted to but because I needed to) and it is almost better. Teeny bit lower tone and supposedly from what ive read better for the engine. P.S. I also broke my exhaaust completely off BEFORE the catalytic converter, and you still barely could tell any difference at all. The small engine and the turbo in the way makes barely any exhaust noise.

  • wow u really can hear the turbo! awesome slowly coming round to the idea of a tdi

  • @Jx181 The turbo makes the backpressure

  • @Jx181 you will only gain power when you decrease back pressure on a turbo car. any loss in power regarding the exhaust is related to something else.

  • Did you lose any power when you did this? i know lots of people have problems with the turbo when they straight pipe it because of the difference in backpressure

  • @DrBlalock i love the added suddle sound from the turbo after the mufflerectomy

  • thanks, man
