What an overwrought, overblown, overacted, scene-chewing performance!

A very brave role to take (but a slightly schmaltzy ending).

The man's speech about his film is really a huge jab at Joan Crawford, who was supposed to be the embodiment of all he is speaking of.

Great acting by Bette as usual. She only grew better with age.
Probably already mentioned at boating scene, but Natalie Wood gave a testimonial to Bette that she was terrified of water and the director bullied her about getting into the water until Bette told him to back off. Chilling story due to Natalie's death, but good story of Bette's care of a child and fellow actor.

Strange she did something so like Eve so soon after. Same story really just a different twist on it. Guess they thought the 'public' wanted a 'sequel'.

Yeah it IS quite similar in certain ways. The role was actually based in part on Joan Crawford who was offered the part first but refused to play and 'aging' actress. Of course Bette jumped at the chance! :)
