Stojche -Djibouti EP// Dogmatik //Dog011 //Londons Dogmatik imprint tend to deliver releases that stand out from the crowd and Djibouti EP from Stojche is no different. Macedonian Stojche Cvetanovski grew up listening and playing Detroit techno but his sound now centers around sleek, modern house music with an edge and Djibouti EP displays that wonderfully. The first of the EPs four original cuts is Air of Djbiouti, a highly detailed houser with a supple bassline that oozes under the beats. Electronic and organic percussion intermingle wonderfully while rich chords, sax stabs and vocal licks provide rhythmic switches throughout which further emphasise the swinging bass. Subtil Of Me, while a more straight forward groove, is no less endearing. The low-end sine wave/organ drone underpinning the whole track gives the whole thing an urgency and warmth while carefully placed percussive hits and vocal samples, as in Air of Djibouti, provide the detail around a stirring, rising chord break. Twister Dub starts the B side of the EP off with simplistic beats, bass and chord approach which does the dub-house template justice admirably. Finally, OHare takes its cues from the old school wonderfully with a funky, shuffled bassline doing the work while the linear arrangement builds and drops in just the right places to keep the floor moving. From the breakdown onward, the track ups a gear with the slightest of hi-hat changes which propel the track that little bit more. This is another winner for Dogmatik and a great introduction for Stojche.
