I had one red light come on my elite the other day. It had E74 error on the screen. I called xbox and they said if it's 1 or 3 lights they will fix for free as they have extended the warranty to 3 years on 1 and 3 red lights. I'm in the UK. Mine left for Germany this morning to get fixed.
My elite is 2 years old.

my 360 premium has red lighted 3 times in 11 months. twice red lighting with 3 lights, and once 1 red light with e74 message. i was gonna get an elite thinking they dont red light but after seeing this i think ill leave it and spend 20 quid on 2 years extra cover at gamestation : (
