corn ethanol isn't perfect. but it doesn't take the corn out of the food chain. they only use the starch. 100% of the protein is returned to the food chain. corn ethanol is a good starting place. their are better energy crops that can utilize the land better, but without the 2400 fueling stations that corn ethanol has gotten us good luck getting funding. the world has peaked in oil production and nothing can change that even if we could drill everywhere. study Peak Oil and find out 4 yourself.
