Pinchgut has become well known for its discovery of rarely performed works. This years offering from the early Italian Baroque period, LOrmindo, is another gem not to be missed.
Written by the most famous opera composer of his time (and Monteverdis protégé), Francesco Cavalli, LOrmindo is full of sublime melodies, harmonic invention and delicious humour! A beautiful young queen, her elderly husband, two lovelorn princes, cross-dressing aides, and of course, a little matter of mistaken identity With a more or less happy ending.
The cast will include some of Australias favourite voices including Fiona Campbell, Taryn Fiebig, Kanen Breen, Richard Anderson, Trevor Pichanick, Jane Sheldon and Anna Fraser. American countertenor David Walker will return to sing Ormindo and the Orchestra of the Antipodes, conducted from the harpsichord by Erin Helyard, will play on instruments of the Italian baroque.
