  • @yellowbaron39 he's actually correct. marimba music is nothing compared to older instruments, because it has not been around as long.

  • this is "The WAVE" composed by Keiko Abe

  • Marimba music is relatively new when compared to say, violin music so give it time and the real masterpieces will emerge.

  • dude i was there in austin, this was so amazing to watch, she's so tiny in person then when she's in front of a marimba the beast comes out!!

  • This is a reply to both thepacers and marimbit. While it is true that there is a standard rep list of great pieces for marimba there are also ALOT of crappy pieces for marimba. thepacers comment does have merit because when you compare the the solo rep for say violin or flute to the marimba rep it doesn't even compare in sheer number of pieces let alone good pieces. So all I am trying to say is that both of you are right.

  • does this remind anyone else of the second movement of the marimba spiritual (which keiko abe premiered)

  • what is this ensemble piece called??

  • haha i was there

    she was amazinnggggg

  • (continued...) that could lead to a lot of it being similar, but also there is style to consider. she has her style. i mean, your opinion on her music is your opinion, but if you think there aren't that many good for marimba out there you're nuts.

  • yeah dude... i can't agree with much that you said. There is TONS of music for marimba. I have actually heard Gordon Stout talking about how he will never learn a one handed roll, because there is plenty of music for marimba out there without. and if you don't like her music you dont get her music. A lot of her "written" music is just someone transcribing an improvisation.
