This was an old 12Gb IDE hard drive that I was going to throw out, before I did that I decided to mess around with it, sorry for the terrible quality this was taken with an old digital camera.

This was done by removing the top section of the housing, covering the platters with cling film to protect them somewhat then, using a dremel tool, cutting a section out of the top of the case. The transparent cover was made from a CD case sealed with silicone sealant. It has a load of bad sectors but still worked.

*Don't do this to any disk that you are not going to throw away, opening a hard disk without special facilities will ruin it and destroy your data*

  • I thought hdd were air tight

  • They're not, they have a filtered hole to allow air pressure to equalize between the inside and outside of the case.

  • Hard drives aren't air tight the last time I checked since there's holes in them.

  • how did u put the lid back on...how do u take the air out...or how long did u wate to power it up
