  • Hate to say it, but wow he holds his oboe close to his body.

  • William Bennett, oboe + Steve Paulson, bassoon + Robin McKee, flute + Tim Day, flute = Woodwind Nirvana

  • @cubsfaninstlouis Christ is born?lol It sounds more like His trial and execution, but praise Him all the same!

  • Christ is Born!-Glorify Him!

I love the second movement! I like this symphony espscially the 2nd movement!

  • i just watched this at school

Thanks for praising me and making so many suppositions about about me.

You call that 'childlike'??? That's like a hippopotamus after swallowing an elephant! The movement's tempo marking is Andantino in modo di canzona which means that there needs to be a certain pace and that it is song-like (a song not a funeral march!).

Listen to Karajan, Muti, Abbado and Masur etc.

  • @ALBIBISBIS Not "self-indulgence" at all. You seem not to know how music like this gets made -- which is expert, collaborative, and carefully rehearsed -- not some kind of ego thing. In this case, the conductor worked with Bennett (the oboe) and Paulson (the bassoon) for exactly this effect, and they delivered as great professionals do. The oboe starts, in a simple, childlike way; then, the bassoon finishes, like the voice of years of wisdom. Try listening again, and you might catch it.

  • @ikshields

most epic woodwind quintet ever? we'll need to find a horn player, clarinetist and flautist of the same calibre...

  • Wow...that oboe solo is sooooooo slow! That's self-indulgence not expresiveness!

  • I love the Cello solo
