Don't know about you guys but the miniatures are so cool, especially the loader/alien scene falling down the shaft. Pure genius, the whole series for that matter.
@Eldeecue I agree. A good example of bad CGI in a horror movie is the 2011 The Thing. The CGI in that was so terrible it ruined the whole movie. It literally looked like the type of CGI you would see in like a cheesy 90's Indie movie.
As an addendum to this, I'll add: CGI should generally be avoided at all costs in horror movies. I've honestly never seen a horror flick that made effective use of it.
Doesn't make it bad....it just makes it look like a cartoon. Practical effects with proper lighting, good use of shadow and good editing always look better than anything CGI can cook up. It's not unlike the Harryhausen days, ironically- we know it's stop motion, just like we can instantly detect the use of CGI in _any_ shot--and despite this, it _can_ work in the proper hands. Jackson's LOTR movies and Jurassic Park are examples of this. The new "Thing" movie..nononono...
@gilkesisking You're just pointing out examples of bad CG. I could do the same. But the already-mentioned Children of Men was not only a window replacement comp, the scenery outside, including the fire, was all CG. Ta da. Or Digital Domain's work on Davy Jones - he absolutely looks real. The only un-real aspect is that you, in your mind, know it's CG because it's impossible to do practical. That doesn't make it 'bad'. It just makes our notion of 'good' dated and nostalgic.
what the hell is Ron Jeremy doing in this clip?? lol
