David Bereit explains the story of the "Knight Shift" and the young man (a member of Knights of Columbus) who was the inspiration for the 24 hour vigils during the first 40 Days for Life campaign. (An excerpt from "You Can Help Save Lives", available from www.40DaysForLife.com.)

  • Simply stated, NOBODY has a right to terminate innocent human lives. I'm also not here to deal with events of 500 years ago. One is totally unrelated to the other. Abortion did not exist 500 years ago.

Your comment about Columbus is totally off base. I thought you were going to drop your campaign against the "Patron Saint" of our Honored Order, but perhaps I was wrong.

WE care for those children whose lives are being snuffed out in the womb. It's wrong to do that, and so we fight it.

  • You have no Idea what you are talking about. There are few Christian lay organizations that do as much to evangelize the populac by living out Jesus Gospels in both word and deed. 100% of LAMB moneys goto those mentally handicapped in need in any of the respective locales where Knights serve. The organization is ultra conservative with money and directs its funds in a manner that holds true to their vision. Talk not of what you know nothing about.

  • @DeedsResearcher NIce story! I've been there and seen it occur on a repetitive basis. And, I've seen it covered up. And I've seen whistle blowers ( I was never one of them) treated like dirt! Treated like dirt? Why? Because it's the way the rich boy's club operates and they like it that way.

One inspired scriptural statement that I like...." Be careful what you do within the secrecy of four walls! For at the very hour of your death, it will be shouted from the roof tops! Clean it up!!

  • @dirtbagcatholics Our Order does NOT "skim" anything "off the top". When we hold fund-raisers, 100% of the Net goes to whatever cause we are involved in helping. Example: the Tootsie Roll Drive. We have to pay for the Tootsie Rolls. If a Council pays $100 for Tootsie Rolls, and brings in $1100, a check for $1000 is cut. It is split 2 ways: 70% to the State Special Olympics, and 30% to the local. And no "men's club" can do the things the K of C can do. Goodbye.

  • @DeedsResearcher The vast majority of your members are the people who actually believe in doing good things and working hard. The big shots who run the racket attend gold plated conventions which price out the rest of these ordinary people. This insures that the knights of columbus is a rich man's club.

It is systemically, in the macro sense, parasitic. A men's group within the Parish can do anything this organization now has preempted without the skimming of money off the top.

  • @dirtbagcatholics The vast majority of our members are NOT wealthy by any measure. By the way, we are not a "club", either. We are a Fraternal Order. We are large enough to have NGO standing at the United Nations. alling us a "club" is a real insult. I will not reply to further messages containing such an insult. Bye.

  • @primoabruzzi Ban the K of C from the Parish? Are you out of your mind? Blessed John Paul II called us "The Strong right arm of the Catholic Church": We appreciate the High compliment paid to us by His Holiness. Understand this: We do not "take over" anything in any parish. If and when the Pastor asks us for help, we help to the best of our abilities. Period.

  • @dirtbagcatholics As a little FYI, sonny: The Knights of Columbus does not engage in partisan politics. It is explicitly forbidden to bring partisan politics into Council Chambers. We do not endorse people who are running for office, and as an Order, we do not donate to any candidates...even if they are Knights! Suggestion: learn the facts about us before making any more foolish comments about our Honored Order.

  • @DeedsResearcher Affecting a real change in the rate of fetal destruction is socio-economic in nature.

But this agenda doesn't further right wing politics.

  • @DeedsResearcher As an Order, we do not have legal authority to end abortions.

As to the prior statement... I know that you don't have the legal authority to end abortions...

My premise is that your club uses the abortion issue to further a political agenda that benefits crony catholicism for the wealthy and influential. This in contrast to providing a real solution to the murder of babies which are socio-economic in nature. T
