The New Hitachi Javelin High Speed preview service from St Pancras to Kent. This clip shows a trip from Ashford to St Pancras on only the second day of the operation of the preview service. There is no comparison between this and the slow multi stop service on the old line; though at £48.70 day return, it sure isn`t cheap !

  • 加速や走行は新幹線に似ているね。

    そして、静かだ!

    英国でも愛されて欲しい...

  • Thought I`d get this translated by popping it into babel fish ! The result is probably not an exact match lol !!!

"Don't you think? accelerating and travelling have been similar to the Shinkansen. And, it is quiet! We want being loved even in England "

and my reply; yes indeed, your trains are very good, thank you ! ; though its a shame we are not making our own new trains here in the UK, sigh.

  • @Stereolabdream Disagree. The whole point of the HS service is to serve north and east Kent. How many commute from Croydon to Ashford? Very few, I imagine. How many commute from Canterbury/Margate/Ramsgate/Hastings/Dover/Folkestone, not to mention Ashford, into London? Although I sympathise with your situation, it has cut the journey time from Ashford to London by half, which is a huge improvement. It might not be beneficial to South London/West Kent, but you're close enough to London in any case

  • I live in Croydon, but regularly travel to Ashford.

Sadly, despite the governments propoganda, this service will reduce my journey time from 2 hours 15mins on average, to 1hour 49 on average...hardly a revolutionary leap forward, for a distance of just 55 miles as the crow flies, and at considerable extra ticket cost and considerable tax cost...

Sorry to be on a downer, but I think I represent many angry rail travellers in the South london and Kent region.

    Great train- terrible service.

  • Perhaps, the last words say,

I hope (the trains are) loved also in the UK.......
