At 3:40, it is interesting to see how Dakota, stops and really listens to her little sister. They have a wonderful relationship together.

It IS a wonderful film. In fact it's one of my favorite movies of all time. I DID want to make a minor correction to what I said earlier about the story making sense.

What I meant to say is that the story is still the same as the FOX dub, so no need to worry. :)

It wasn't FOX who did the dub; it was Streamline. FOX only distributed it.

The new dub of TOTORO is excellent, but like the old dub of AKIRA, it has been compared very unfavorably to both the original Eng dub and the Japanese version. Having seen both versions, I think both are charming and enjoyable in their own right. The 90's dub was good for its time, but the new dub adds to the characters and the story makes sense. Plus the Fannings are actually pretty good choices for the girls.

It came out in 1988, but Fox did an English dub in 1993. I remember the Fox Video version - the video store I worked at only carried that version, but it usually got Disney dubbed animae as it was released, so I'm sure it got this one too (I left before this movie was put out on DVD).

This movie always looked appealing when I was younger, but I don't think I've ever seen it, but with Tim Daly and the adorable Fanning sisters, I may have to get my hands on it.
