Markus Winter, the manager of a beautiful hotel in Beijing, is busy preparing a lavish German--Chinese wedding with the help of his daughter Leonie. Everyone knows of the event except for the bride's father, because Anna is afraid to tell her dad that she will marry her Chinese fiancé David and remain in the country forever. Since the death of his wife he has become increasingly dependent on her, but Anna is hoping that after he gets to experience the magnificent and beautiful Chinese culture he'll understand why she finds the country so delightful. However, when her dad does happen to find out about the wedding he feels that Anna has betrayed him. To make matters worse, David has a hard time understanding why her father's approval is so important and begins to doubt her love. Anna is becoming desperate, because she is also secretly pregnant...

In the meantime, Leonie is getting to know Fabian, a young man who became paralyzed after a tragicmotorcycle accident. Together they attend a performance given by Shaolin monks and are both fascinated. Fabian, who used to be a very talented martial arts fighter, is inspired to spend a few days at the monastery to meditate and find new courage to face life. While Fabian is searching for inner peace, his overly protective mother Loretta, an art historian, is gradually falling for Thomas, a shy and introverted curator who nourishes a deep passion for Chinese art treasures. Loretta is beginning to understand why Thomas is so determined to preserve and keep ancient Chinese art from leaving its country of origin. What she's not yet really clear on is if she's ready for a new love...
