http://chris.pirillo.com/how-the-ibot-wheelchair-mobility-device-improves-lives/ Recently, I had the opportunity to talk to Michael Kaplan, a fellow geek and owner of the iBOT by Independence Technology (a division of Johnson & Johnson).

The iBOT is an extremely versatile and stable wheelchair that can actually stand on two wheels. In 2006, the iBOT retailed for $26,100 with a required prescription. New models are no longer being manufactured and support is expected to end in 2014.

While its name might give you the impression that it's the next big Apple product, the iBOT was actually developed by Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway. While they both share a common trait allowing humans to travel on two wheels, this is where their similarities really end.

  • Amazing tech, sadly its so limited. I fucking hate most things related to healthcare disability. They all stuck in stone fucking age

  • The reason for this video is to say that "Segways aren't safe" ( for exploring cliffs). Governments all hate the Segway because it threatens the auto monopoly.

  • @MechaBlazeEagle As i wrote a gyroscoping seat can easily be added to make it work like the Challenger/AT4x4/Viking wheelchair, then it can climb stairs with a man on it.

  • @Hesam0000 But that's a mobile platform not a wheelchair ...

  • Chris, is this michael guy your own brother? IBOT is discontinued why advertising it?

IBOT was a chunky, overpriced piece of technojunk. Segway RMP 400 can be modified to accept Challenger-like Gyroscoping chair and become a nice, safe, stairclimbing chair. Chalenget or AT 4x4 made in China already does that at much lower price.

  • lol at 7:25 i thought chris said iPod

  • I'm actually disabled.

    Hahahahahahaha.

  • you shouldve asked him what he was planning to do when he "pimps it"!!

  • Thanks.
