tks pkving, The main reason 4 close-marriage 4 us was to keep our land intact & local affluence. According to my sister who spend time w/ the family in the capital early 70s, he was very aware of the national pride raising high at that time, he didn't want his marriage / background be problem to his career & fame, no point of a song to remind people where he came from, he knew how gossip & judgmental can destroy career, he was right. The dress in the clip is in Esaan tradition, similar to Laos.

domgam,
thanx 4 the info. in a site where some people seem 2b embarrassed or indignant about samouth marryin' his cousin, i tell them that in the cambodian culture it's ok 2 marry one's cousin, that they must not judge events happenin' in cambodia based on the beliefs & values of the west. in another site, i also ask the same question as you do here: why is it that samouth never sang about his home province of steung trenhg??

Lok Sin Sisamouth married his cousin who is my mother's first cousin in khat Stieng Treng, we were more Laos than Khmer at that time. The reason was that the province is very close to Laos and it was only return by Siam (Thailand) early in the turn of the century which mean less that 50 years under Kampuchea rule at that time but Laos had been living in that delta area long before Siam took and returned. Does anyone know why with all the great songs he sang, never one about Stieng Treng?

luckey008,
rite rite preab has loudness but no meanin'. he aint please my ears at all either. i never care either. i aint know who heng bunleap is. i know that preab aint the best male singer in cambodia at the present. yeah yeah the 100% true star artist is sin si samouth.
sin si samouth = beatles + elvis of cambodia.
when i grew up in the 60s & was a youth in
the 1st half of the 70s in cambodia, he was
like the other half of the soul of every
cambodian, pure khemera or mixed race, male
or female, young or old, rich or poor.
now after bein' away from cambodia 4 more
than 30 years, i still have him & undoubtedly
will always have him in my soul.
