The sweetest part is the last part! Govardhan Puja! This is an annual celebration held mostly in Vrindavan, but now all over the world, by the mercy of our GREAT Vaishnava teachers. (Mainly His Divine Grace, Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupad)
In this final part, we are singing many sacred songs and chants and chanting the mahamantra, while bathing Giriraj.

1. We make a big hill out of Sweets and nicely prepared foods that we offer to Krishna!

2. While chanting, We bathed the sacred stones from Krishna's favorite hill called "Govardhan" in milk, ghee, yogurt, honey, sugar and other auspicious substances.

3. We place the stones on the "hill"

4. Because it is also still the month of Damodar, or Kartik, we sing the Damodarastakam and offer lamps.

5. We hear the glories of Govardhan hill and Krishna's related pastimes.

6. We go around the hill chanting and dancing.

7. We honor the Prasadam, foodstuffs that are offered to Krishna.

  • I would love to visit India someday.

  • man i didn't see your reply- yeah im lil sis :-D I was in India when they had this celebration. I was celebrating it in India! I got my pic in the newspaper too *blushes* :-D

  • The spirit, (or personality) in these stones, name is Giriraj. He (like mother earth, the sun, the moon, ) is a servant of God. He is very near and dear to Krishna.

  • The Stones that are being bathed in milk, yogurt and honey etc are sacred stones from Govardhan hill. They are considered non different from Goverdhan hill. We understand that everything has a spirit, (sort of like the Native Americans) including Mother Earth etc.

  • That would be awesome!

  • well cool, more devotees the merrier! we'll announce when a festival comes up k :-)
