Unfortunately the word you are speaking of in Luke 1:36 and 1:58 is not even the Greek word for 'cousin'.

The actual Greek word for cousin is 'anepsios' while the Greek word used in Luke 1:36 and Luke 1:58 is 'suggenis'. Suggenis refers to kinsman or kinswoman, not specifically the relation of cousin.

The Greek word 'adelphoi' is the key word to consider, which from the Hebrew mindset when used in the NT has a wide semantic range (cousin, son-in-law, etc.) Cf. Mt 13:55

The Catholic religion says the word translated "brother" should be "cousin". Wrong . The word "cousin" is clearly found in the scripture and it means--you've got it--cousin! Luke 1:36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. Luke 1:58 And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
