WOW! I never knew how ugly my golf swing was until I watched it on video...over and over and over again.

Well, there's plenty to critique here. But please, don't tell me I need to shorten my backswing....DUH! I know that....But I would appreciate any tips on how to control that swing. How do I make it stop at parallel? And where did that chicken wing come from? When I swing I feel like I have a nice solid plane most of the time....the video begs to differ!

And I thought listening to an audio recording of yourself was painful....this is a new level of pain.

  • That john daly move seems to cause you to lose control of the club at the top of your swing. I guarantee that's what's causing your over the top pattern. Shorten your swing and concentrate on an inside to out path.

  • john daly

  • on the downswing, about a foot behind the ball, you can see the shaft flexing forward aka decelerating. the only reason you're making good contact is the ball's above your feet

  • dont listen to any one of hese hackers . Listen man i just want you to focus on keeping that left foot on the ground on your back swing , that will enable you to come from the inside rather then over the top , and it will get rid of tha dreaded cut sdhot that you hit.

  • youre casting the club and comig over the top. try to keep your wrists hinged and try to keep your right elbow in your side on the downswing. everyone has given pretty good advice, especially try to take 3/4 swings when you practice. if you do something for 21 days straight it gets engraved into your muscle memory. also extend your arms after impact, your chicken-winging.

  • the reason you are chunking it a bit is because you have way oo much of a steep swing. Try to bring it around your body a little bit more. Also you are slightly lunging at the ball.

  • Actually you dont necessarily need to shorten your backswing. The biggest thing I see, along with the flying elbow, is that you are casting from the top. Pull down with the arms, and delay the unloading of the wrists. It's not perfect, but look @ my vid & see what I mean.

  • dude just get rid of the flying elbow. Get it tight against your right side. Get a feel for it and groove it. Put a head cover under your right arm and keep it tight. don't let head cover fall utill your downswing.

  • Very solid swing, you have to be pretty flexible to swing it like that! Anyways, one way to help ensure your backswing is shorter is to reduce the wrist cock at the top of your swing because the more your wrist bends at the top, the farther the club will deviate from the parallel position. And I agree a slower backswing stopping at the 3/4 swing position for you will be ideal. Cheers!!
