Train 1: CSS 2000 and 2003 pulling a short train down 10th street. These cars were dropped of near Mittel then the engines went to move some cars around at NIPSCo's Bailey yard.
"Train" 2: NICTD Hy-Rail truck street running. I later heard him on the scanner and he said they were inspecting the new cantenary that just got put up.
Train 3: CSS 2004 moving some cars out of NIPSCo's Michigan City yard.
Train 4: CSS 2006, 2009, 2002, and NICTD 1000, a.k.a. "The Gray Ghost" heading back to the shops.

  • I have to laugh every time I see a Hi-Rail truck street running. I'm always like, "What's the point of that???"

  • @JLJ061

He did that all the way down 11th street to!

  • They need to inspect the tracks even if they are in the street. It was probably confusing for the traffic he met (especially on the busy 11th St where road vehicles normally don't straddle the tracks). Due to parking on 10th St it is common for normal traffic to drive with one wheel in the gauge but on 11th St people usually stay on their side of the road.

They need to be on the hi-rail equipment to follow tracks where the road doesn't go (10th St interlocking, Michigan Ave to Carrol Ave).

  • @justalurker66 yeah. a while later i heard him on the scanner requesting permission from the dispatcher to go past mp36 and he said they were inspecting the brand new cantenary they put up

  • That first freight train really should have had the bell on, LOL at the Hy rail truck that's kind of funny

  • Pretty nice that they run so fast down the street, and no horn shows they respect the neighborhood too. As for the hy-rail on the street it's alot easier to stay on the rails then to stop get off then stop and get back on plus they might feel something on the rails that they would miss on the street.

  • Great video! LOL, a hy-rail truck street running doesn't look any different from a truck just driving on the road. NICTD 1000 looks pretty cool.:)
