Joe Sandor and the crew from Chicago Crucible demonstrate an iron pour at Maker Faire Detroit 2011. These metalheads collected metal from old radiators and coke from a Detroit power plant and then fired up the furnace. They poured the molten steel into a watermelon and other decorative molds, which were created at the Faire.

  • @CampKohler most of it shatters off like glass, what's left burns out as slag which comes out of the upper hole on the side of the furnace, it's essentially black glass when it chills

  • @a6entoren6e thats the only part i heard

  • @a6entoren6e Coke is a residue of coal obtained through a process known as destructive distillation. Special ovens are used to burn off the volatile matter—tar, oils and gases— in the coal, leaving mainly fixed carbon. Coke is used primarily in blast furnaces to make pig iron.

  • @a6entoren6e It's essentially coal. A similar fuel. Wikipedia it!
