http://ListForumla.com Do you know this guy? He's been trying to sell a pay-per-click product to his golf list for over two years now and insists that at some point, someone will want to buy it. Wrong. The worst thing you can do is to try and sell something to your list that has no bearing on their interests. People on a golf list probably know zero about pay-per-click and could care less. This guy could go on selling this product to his list for a hundred years and STILL never make one sale.

So, how do you know what to sell people?

First, it has to be niche-centric. Meaning that the item for sale has to make sense to the people on your list. In our above marketer's case, ebooks about how to improve your golf swing, golfing accessories, or an online course about putting would make much better sense. People who signed up for his list are interested in becoming better golfers.

But let's take that a step further. How many of the people on his list really want to read an ebook about improving their golf swing? Our arrogant marketer doesn't know. He's never ASKED.

If you want to be a successful marketer, you have to understand that the people on your list have wants and needs, and they're pretty specific in most cases. People joined that golf list because they're slicing the ball or they're having trouble getting out of the rough and they want to get some tips on making that easier. But they may not want to become better putters. Some will. But you don't know that! What you want to know is what MOST of them want.

Run an ASK campaign. This is nothing more than a survey that will tell you exactly what to sell to your audience. You can ask the simple question, "What's your single biggest question about..." and insert your niche. Our guy above should ask his list, "What's your single biggest question about golfing?" And he's going to get a variety of answers on what people want and why they joined his list. He can compile the information and find out what most of them want and then, just sell it to them. Simple? It really is.

Setting up an ASK campaign isn't difficult, and there are several sites online that can help you to do that.
