@travball5 just go with a 120v ac solenoid and motion sesnor light to keep it cheap and simple, on the light output just screw a light into the first one, and on the second take the wires and wire it to the solenoid, it shouldnt matter which, because its ac... as long as one is wired hot and the other nuetral. for a pressure mat , you need a prop controller or you will not get any thing but the quick split second of them stepping on it.

@travball5 also make sure you use the correct voltage with youre valve, they have 12v and 120v valves, if you can id go with the 12 v route and maybe a car battery or wall charger. that way the voltage is less dangerous, and you can also power the pico boo of that voltage, on top of that if you ever need to put train horns or anything like that in your car, you could use this valve later on down the road. :)

@travball5 as long as the stroke is over 6" you'll be fine, although i do recommend 12" , mounting is more important than stroke size, have you considered making a monster in the box or a four bar mech, they're a lot more effective at scaring people with one cylinder, i got my air compressor from ebay for cheap, yes i do have two breather vents, four male push ones (two for the cylinder, and two for the solenoid valve), and a four way valve is what i used, dont forget tubing,
also will a 1 gallon 115 psi air compressor be able to run one prop for a night. or should i get a 3 gallon or what?

@travball5 3 gallon might be underpushing it, 5 gallon works but it will be running alot, 10-20 gallon will run about a quarter of the time, and anything higher probably wont have to run much at all, especially for a simple prop like this..

ok this is the last time im gonna bother you. lol
I think i want to just do a set up like ur doing in this vid (complete pneumatic setup) I got the pneumatic cylinder and and solenoid hook up part down.
I just want to know how to wire the light house switch (like the one your using) to activate the prop and make the cylinder shaft go up and down.
How do I wire the light house switch to the solenoid?
thanks for helping me i know im a noob.

@travball5 first off 120vac is very deadly, and hurts really bad if not kills you if you come in contact so make sure nothing is plugged in around you i know it sounds stupid, but people sometimes are well....people we make mistakes. but if you want to do it a better way definatly go with a motion flood light there like 20.00 and then just buy one of those screw in bulb sockets that converts it into a normal outlet, take an extension cord, cut the end off and wire it to the leads form solenoid

@travball5 flipping a switch got really old really quick for me, and if its automated you wont have to worry about angry parents scaring their kids haha, you could just say its automatic and you had no control over it, but anyway if you want to flip a switch on and off all night take an extension cord and only cut one wire, take the two bare parts of the wire you just cut, and wire them to the contacts on the switch, leave one side of the extension cord alone make sure every thing is sealed

thanks for the help.
So if i don't want to do any sound or animation on my prop do I even need a prop controller, or can I just get a mat or push trigger and connect it to a wall charger or battery?
Is the solenoid valve wired to the wall charger, and the trigger to another charger, or is there just one connection between the trigger, valve, and power supply.
thanks man im just trying to figure this stuff out

go with a pico boo or nerve center or animation maestro (prop controllers) down the road your can make your cylinder run through a series of movements, with sound, trust me you will want to get more complex. its definably worth the 50-100.00 more in cost just save up for it, then you can hook a mat up to the trigger input of the controller, but if you need something quick cheap and basic, just buy a motion sensor light from wally world, just make sure you get voltages right on the solenoid.
