I wrote this song for Auntie Connie Paikai, one of my most favorite aunties, on her 70th birthday! I compare her beauty to the simple lavender maunaloa flower that I remember growing in my childhood backyard and does not exude an overbearing scent, but has added so much aloha to my life when it really counted...and when I look back at all that she has given me, her love has created a beautiful lei that I wear proudly on my shoulders. My kumu, Doric Yaris, encourages me to be a well rounded student in hula, learning not only the dance, but providing mele to support and uplift the people who are important to me. This is my first competition as a song writer and I am so grateful for the support from all of you. Happy Birthday, Auntie Connie! You are forever imprinted on my heart! ♥
