while i don't disagree on the theoretical aspects of this, you would only really see that effect as it passed you. if you were travelling alongside it, maybe, but as it first launches into that speed, especially if being propelled from the rear like that, it would look a lot more like in the new Trek movie, just blasting into a blip. though the movie people would agree with you, as you can see some of that effecr from the bridge when the Enterprise warps to Vulcan
I compared it with the original and I guess I must have poor eyesight or something... I'm trying REALLY hard to see your effect but can't. The extra stretch must've been really small.

Not bad, did not catch it the first time, but looped it and caught it. The added SoundFX was not too shappy either.
