  • this is the most moving scene in the movie, especially when she says: das ist mein Mann, mein Mann

  • I'd love to see some other scenes from this film posted, particularly when they dance in the bar.

  • Apparently this was Fassbinder's quickest-made and cheapest movie, made in only 15 days, but was his most successful or the most lauded. I can see why! This scene is so cute! :)

  • @joeinparis His name was El Hedi ben Salem. He committed suicide in a prison in Nimes France in 1982. Source: wikipedia

  • @iiNDiTC The entire film is very much worth watching, and yes, I agree...this scene is is not entirely representative of the entire film. It is far more complicated than this...

  • It may seem like an overstatement today, but this was truly an amazing film in post war germany, where racism was rampant. Not, that it has gone away, quite the contrary, but Fassbinder was able to capture the human element, the longing for love and acceptance. It's a difficult film to watch, because the ending is not happy.

  • the dancing in the bar sequence can be found under the title "Ali: Fear Eats The Soul" Emmi meets Ali

  • A Masterpice!!!! Great Movie... and the performance of the old woman, AMAZING!!

  • Great movie - very understated.

  • @ezekieloak what a lovely statement about this movie. I will always think about sitting at the table now when i watch this scene. Thank you!

  • The most brilliant thing about this scene is the opening shot and the final twisting pan away from them.

The camera is at standing-eye level during the he opening shot. (Important are the standing swine spectators.) But then, for the end of the scene, the camera is a sitting-eye level. It's almost like, through the process of eavesdropping, the viewer has taken a seat amongst the rare non-racists in the world.

The message being that racists have no place at the table of civilization.

    Bitte.

  • i fucking love this film so damn much. and this scene. i really feel like crying :-\
