Free and Open Textbooks! We preserve the best of the old - books by leading experts that are rigorously reviewed and developed to the highest standards. Then we flip it all on its head. Our books are free online. We offer convenient, low-cost choices for students -- print, audio, by-the-chapter, and more. Our books are open for instructors to mix, mash, and make their own. Our books are the hub of a social learning network where students learn from the book and each other.

  • @wicked2brian I would challenge you to go to any article on wikipedia, and edit it to add some erroneous information, and see how long it stays in the article. These days, articles are monitored and rated, and solid references are required (the links to references at the bottom of article pages are one of the best parts of wikipedia when you are researching a topic. You seem to simultaneously be for and against small gropus of people being in control of knowledge...

  • The other side of this that I really dont approve of is the fact that many open source proponents are referencing sites like Wikipedia as a resource for course materials. Do these proponents know that the idea behind Wikipedia is that ANYONE regardless of a basis of truth can modify the topics!

  • The situation with textbooks in Texas is a precusor to what I would expect to happen with Free, open source textbooks. A small group of people will be in control of the knowlege and learning and thus many topics will become slanted and propagandised.

  • Not a terrible idea, but...

Do I really want knowledge from anyone calling themselves "flat earth"ers? ;)

Unfortunate choice of name... unless you're just a friendly e-face on the antilectuals currently trying to foist god delusions into textbooks, in which case as you were.

  • Great info I would suggest using GreenTextbooks . org

    Save Money, Save The Planet

GreenTextbooks . org specializes in the recycling of textbooks, DVDs, CDs. Buying used textbooks not only saves you money, but cuts down on greenhouse gases caused by the manufacturing of new textbooks.

With GreenTextbooks . org you're not only saving trees, you are saving some green. GreenTextbooks . org
