Sondra is very good operatic singer,but now I realize what it constantly disturbes me in her singing. It's sharpness , sometimes it comes with metallic notes...There's also unpleasant vibrato which must be reduced to moderate . Dmitriy is always marvellous and impeccable .

@spqrmor Videos on YouTube are just for fun, it's problematic to use them as a reference. The original format was .wmv, which is not too bad, but could have been worse. Have you seen/heard her Vissi d'arte?

@frufruJ Thanks for your advice.I know she 's wonderful soprano.I would like to hear her live some day.That would be the best criterion to me for sure.Naturally all great sopranos are unique and I admire them all.

@spqrmor Is it possible that the sound quality is harsher towards her voice than others'? I have seen her live and to my ears she didn't have the unpleasant tinge that she has here... But I understand you, I wasn't crazy about her voice in the beginning, either, even though that could've been just the sound, too. Have you got her CD?

they are both fantastic in this... the recent metropolitan opera performance was amazing!! why would Leonora fall for Manrico when the sexy and passionate Conte di Luna is around??!?

Sadly that is how the story goes. The baritone never gets the girl!!! Which I think is unfair as I can name a lot more great baritones than than tenors. But there you go. By the way after Verdi finished the opera he said all it needed to be well performed was the 4 best singers in the world. He is a fantastic baritone and she is also a very good Leonora

Sondra Radvanovsky is a great singer. I herad her Tosca last year at the Met.Her Vissi D'Arte was a great piece of singing.

The voice has similarities to a number of singers: Rosalind Plowright, some overtones are reminiscent of Callas and Souliotis, and there is a touch of Gheorghiu in the sound.

With virtues come some imperfections similar to those singers.

Now about Dmitri Hvorostovsky. His is a lyrical baritone and I lack here bite that was there with his Italian predecessors.

@frufruJ She is a lyrico-spinto soprano; her voice has a natural sharpness. However, in my opinion, it suits her perfectly for the dramatic roles she sings. However, her vibrato is sometimes heavy. At the MET (Il Trovatore), her first aria was ruined because of her heavy vibrato (I felt she hadn't warmed up properly). After that, she was magnificent.
