I have noticed something odd. every written reference to the gun (chinese staff)that I have read says that in length it is generally as tall as the wielder's eyes or close to his own height, But in every video I have seen of wushu staff techniques, the staff is clearly 5or 6 inches taller than the person. You can see this whenever he plants the staff on the ground and stands upright. I am just curious as to who is right (I generally use staves anywhere from 6 to 8 feet.)

I have always learned that to find the staff tall wich suits one most, you put your fist on your head, and so, the staff must be as tall as your height plus your fist. bu some also says that for the nangun, you have to raise you arm and the staff must get to your wrist

hey you know the pinyin spelling is xihuan you spell the pinyin wrong in most of your title vids.

Nope I spelled it right ^^ cuz, the chinese word for "free form" is "zixuan" ... I didn't meant to say "liked" or "favourite" by "zixuan" ... so didn't wrote "xihuan" ;-)

@HumbleHumbert123 In Comtemporary Wushu, the staff for competition must be at least a few inches (like 2-3 inches) above your own head. Traditional kung fu probably has different standards. (This video contains only wushu).

The rules require that the staff is your head height or higher. Some people get it as short as possible without it being illegally short so they can whip it around or spin it at a zillion miles per hour. Of course, in old school wushu videos, (like Shao Chang Jun) their staffs are really tall, because it looks...just..BALLER!
