Part 1. Sonata in A Major for cello and piano by Pierre-Octave Ferroud (1900-1936- auto crash). Performed by Maurice Marechal, cello, and Helene Pignari-Salles, piano. Written in 1930, recorded for Columbia in 1935. Ferroud was a promising, highly regarded young French composer who died young. Marechal (1892-1964) was the foremost French cellist of his time. He refused to perform for the Nazis during the War and soon after developed a disabling disease which ended his performing career. About the pianist I could find very little info.

What a wonderful work and such beautiful, clear and technically pristine playing. Both Ferroud and Marechal should be better known. Marechal was a great teacher and among his pupils is the great Christine Walevska.

Wonderful. I found a copy of this a few months ago. When searching for information on this recording it seemed to have been totally forgotten today.
