  • Wow, what a wonderful tribute! Stories like this need to be told so that our younger folk can learn about these careers. In some respects, railroading has not changed much. The long hours, on call all the time, and little rest.

Thank you so much for posting this, it is classic. Very well done.

  • @otef434 Thank you very much !

  • Great Shots !!! Did your dad ever work the Rocket to Rock Island or the Peoria Rocket ???

  • @cehayes74 Yes he did and he loved it beacuse it gave more time off. I'm pretty sure it's in his interview on part 1 or 2 I'm not sure which one.

  • Thank you very much !

  • Bet he met your mom at Lake Lawn Lodge. I used to ride the toboggen launches there. That's where I fell in love with flying.

  • R.I.P. Engineer Jim.

  • Seemed like one hell of a nice guy. I am sure he is missed. R.I.P. Engineer Jim.

  • Very nice, thanks for sharing this interesting interview!

  • What a great tribute to your Dad, the former Rock Island/Metra engineer. It's great you (and I gather your son?) were able to ride with him in the cab and tape the experience, and interview him on his memories....Bravo!!
