thats bullshit, maybe at THE END, when he was cornered and consumed by the likes of alcohol and heroin, and other vices; before the onset of severe depression, he was a brilliant artist as well as a gifted visionary (or propet, or shaman, or mystic, etc etc)...the man blatantly needed a therapist, or to get Buddhism or something; instead Jim remained negligent towards himself and simply, unconsciously and involuntarily, withdrew from society and exacerbated said symptoms until he became _ and _.

Artists , many , are comets.
...comets which want to be brighter than their superior natural brilliance; They experiment with art, music, their bodies. They are superior..and can feel superior to forces which affect others and kill others and limit their productivity..thinking they're immune. Unique, yes, immortal no. These artists are , in an iinnocent way, arrogant.
Arrogance, unfettered, is their ticket to suicide.
