Buchenwaldsangen. (Buchenwald Song)
(S. Julsgaard-Larsen)
Overbetjent Julsgaard-Larsen
med POLITI-KOR.
Odeon D. 1028
Recorded in Copenhagen, Denmark, 1950's

On September 19th, 1944, the Danish Police-force was arrested by the German occupation forces in Denmark and deported to a terrible winter in the concentration camp Buchenwald. Several Danish policemen died cauaed the organized starvation, horror and brutality of the German SS .
Thank's to the food supplies by the Swedish Red Cross, most of the deported Danish policemen, resistance members, communists and jews succeded to survive the nazi horror, until they were liberated during April 1945, after secret negotiations between Count Folke Bernadotte from the Swedish Royal family and Heinreich Himmler. The Swedish Red Cross arranged the evacuation of Danish and Norwegian concentration prisoners, and escorted them via Denmark to neutral Sweden during the last 2-3 weeks before the German surrender. Unfortunately the Danish communists were deported to the concentration camp Stutthof close to Danzig, and they were forced out on a terrible death march to the West, during the evacuation of East Preussia and Danzig. Some of the poor seuls on that death march were so lucky to be liberated by the Red Army after a few miles march. Several of the Danish communists first arrived back to Denmark after the German surrender in 1945.

Here has one of the deported Danish policemen written and composed a song about the terrible winter in Buchenwald during winter 1944-45. The song was recorded by the composer and author of this song, with the Danish police-choir in the background in early 1950's.
