What I like about this is that it's not just scary for the sake of being scary. It has a shockingly powerful truth. The true monsters are people like that father, and if it continues on, it can bring out the monster in others.

"But there's no such thing..." when his father said that, he ignored that he himself is a monster. So the son uses that to justify that what he does also doesn't make him a monster.

And I'm also glad the son just wanted to protect his mom. Brave kid.
