Some of you morons forget.....THIS WAS DONE IN 1960......NO ONE had ever dared to do anything like this. This scene pushed ALL the limits at that time. This one scene was history-making and set a precedent for all movies of this genre.

It's actually still scary without the music, its more real and raw that way; however, I feel it would not have been as epic a scene without the music. I feel like the music isn't really needed though, that is until she slides down the wall because at that part the silence is awkward. But while she is being stabbed, the cinematography, sound effects, and Janet Leigh's screaming make it frightening regardless!!

it is not possible to remove the music from a film unless you have access to the original tape where the music, sound effects and dialogue are in separate tracks.

Always wanted to see it without the music. Interesting. Not to mention that the violin screeches really cover up for some shoddy sound cuts/editing.

One advantage of the music-less version, it wouldn't have led to the parodies being done to death

It's scarier without music, although the schreeching violins piece is classic.
