Regional Heritage Fair -- School District 17 -- May 11, 2011 -- Oromocto, New Brunswick
Harold Peterson Middle School (HPMS) played host to the Regional Heritage Fair on May 11, 2011. Principal of HPMS, Nancy Wall said that hosting the annual event was an honour.
The opening ceremonies kicked off with Scott MacDonald from Kings Landing singing folk songs. The opening continued with greetings and welcomes from various dignitaries like Mary Buchanan a teacher of Maliseet Language and Culture, a performance from the OHS Glee club and The Honorable Graydon Nicholas, who thanked everyone for coming to this event, describing it as a "beautiful experience and also a result of the dedicated work by students and their teachers." The Lieutenant Governor also announced that Government House will play host to the Heritage Fair showcase later in the year.
David McTimoney, Superintendent to School District 17, welcomed attendees to the event and Minister of Education, Jody Carr said: "I can see the magic in learning".
Before the completion of the opening ceremony last year's provincial winner, Grace Blechschmidit spoke about her experience with the Heritage Fair and how she enjoyed taking part, and fiddler Jacqueline Rowan, who shared a taste of her own heritage talents with a the fiddle medley.
