@Gamerrtjexl to focus with the D5000 during video you need to do it manually, using the focus ring on the lens. The nikon D3100 provides autofocus during video recording as well as 1080p HD video, if your looking to upgrade.

does the lens auto focus? because d5000 only supports AF-S for the autofocus to work, right?

@MrLizbudu video is shaking not only because of lack of tripod, but mainly because of the CMOS sensor used in d5000. compare the video from canon 550d, which has better sensor, and you'll see the difference

Great entry level lens. I got this one as part of a double lens kit with the camera for very little money. I would say it's perfect if you are just starting out and only have the standard 18-55mm.
