This is my dad's 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ with the 455 Big Block. We're in the process of restoring it. We picked up a better frame. Ours is very rusty. I rebuilt the carb last summer. The car does start and run and move under it's own power. The brakes are slightly finicky but the car does move within the driveway. I also changed all of the fluids and filters before starting the car. It hadn't been started in about 20 years. The 455 only has about 5k on the clock. Our chassis is very rusty and will need a frame off restoration. To restore this car, it will take many years of hard work, time, love, blood, sweat and tears. There are not too many of these beautiful cars left in the world.

  • my first car back in the mid eighties was a 1969 j grand prix- i loved that car and would love to have another some day- tough to find parts for- good luck with it!!

  • @patwregan - It is a very hard to find parts for it, thankfully dad has been able to save parts over the years. He's had the car since he was a teenager. It's a great car. Even after sitting 20+ years, she still starts right up.

  • Good luck on this project, I have seen these cars in mint condition that can't be touched any where between $60,000- $110,000

  • Continuing on from the earlier post, the car had a factory air ride leveling package, it was basically an air pump under the hood that was powered by engine vacume, I think it was on the passenger side under the hood tucked in on top front of the front wheel well, I had taken the center consel out to make more room in the car (dumb move, later found out I could have gotten $500 for the ashtray alone) The torque that the 455 HO was at the time "unbelievable" I think it was over 500 ft. lbs.

  • I graduated from High School in 1977, I went to work at a local factory in my hometown, the following spring of 1978 I had found an add in a bigger nearby town tor a 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix Model SJ, I called on the add and set up to meet with the owner. I bought the car for $1350, it had 62,000 miles on it. To make a long story short, at my young age with my first car I was pretty hard on it and I basically wrecked it. I wish I would have listened to older friends at the time and kept it nice:(
