Realizing the impact the transition would have on thousands of WOSU TV viewers, WOSU Public Media began outreach efforts around the digital transition last spring, 2008. Partnering with the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging (COAAA) and LifeCare Alliance, WOSU launched a Help Your Neighbor campaign that involved a coupon donation program to help at-risk elderly residents who were clients of COAAA and LifeCare Alliance. Through that program alone, over 2,700 coupons were donated to purchase converter boxes.
In addition to the coupon donation program, WOSU coordinated several other outreach efforts around the transition. Events and activities included a DTV speakers bureau; three Digital Days events that included converter box installation training and staff on hand to answer questions; a DTV booth at approximately 25 community events last year; a DTV converter box installation day where over 150 boxes were installed in area residences; and a series of informational lectures sponsored by the Columbus Metropolitan Library and held at various branches throughout the city.
