I have been trying to see Whale Sharks for years now, even planning a few trips to put myself where they were like to be, but I have always missed them, sometimes by only a few days. Anyway, I didn't expect the chance to see them in Baja California because I thought the season was wrong. Turns out a group of them live in the waters near La Paz year round. We saw two different ones of similar size - I would guess about 12 feet long, but yesterday, they saw a big one which they said was longer than there 18 foot boat. Not that I am disappointed, I had three very close encounters with a huge peaceful creature, twice, I was the only one in the water with it. On all three occasions, I could have touched it, but resisted since it is against the regulations and can frighten them.
How cool is that?!
