This video is part 3 of the GNS3 videos, it is split into two sections due to the length restrictions of You Tube.
It follows on from the previous videos and shows how to set up a simple lab topology of two routers.

  • What about setting up a cloud to connect to the real switches?

I don't have a Mac, but planning to get a MBP soon.

  • @123456iambelial Setting up a cloud is possible to connect to switches. You can do this on PC or Linux not just Mac. if you want to use a machine for GNS3 the most cost effective is probably a decent PC using Linux as the OS. I no longer own any Macs, as they needed replacing and I seeing if I can live without them :-)

  • @gr1moire2112 I have a Ubuntu desktop with GNS3 combined with real routers and switches. However, I have never owned a Mac. According to GNS3 website, it is still in beta.

The reason I am getting a Mac is that I getting tired of tweaking Windows for performance, and wasting time on them, which I could use for studying. I am keeping my Linux box for my lab, and MBP for mobile labbing.

  • @123456iambelial Ok, thanks for the feedback.

  • @gr1moire2112 You've done a fabulous job...can you take this a step further and show how to install and configure an ASA with the qemu file...this one is a problem for me...and I'm sure many other Mac users.

  • @ssthao I originally decompressed them on a Linux box, but you should be able to unzip them in terminal on the Mac, with the unzip command. Or on the GNS3 site on the downloads page there is an image unpacker for the windows platform. Once the image is unpacked I just rename them with the .image extension.

    Example

    unzip -p c7200-g6ik8s-mz.124-2.T1.bin > c7200-g6ik8s-mz.124-2.T1.image

  • How did you decompress the file into .img file? Thanks.

  • @XxMissingDataxX Just uploading a video to show where the resources folder is. If you downloaded the package for GNS3 per my first GNS3 video the file is in there.
