Great scene. It doesn't get much more genuine than this. As much as I enjoy the connection between Neil and Eady in Heat (which I saw before Thief), this is just on another level.

GREAT WRITING !!!

arguably the best 10 minutes of dialogue in an American film ever; and the scriptwriters give it to 2 actors who can make this seem so real, that, as an audience, we feel awkward + guilty as if we are eavesdropping on an intimate reality we shouldn't really be a party to: in one word; Magic

This is definately is a classic must see. I feel a remake coming soon. Please lets hope the original directors regroup on this one again.

I am the last guy you want to f*ck with. Watched earlier today. Still a great movie. This Michael Mann I miss.

Will always be a great movie. I honestly believe the "diner scene" dialogue here is better than the oft-praised 'Heat' diner scene... which I felt was a bit too "Hollywood" if that makes sense.
Overall, the dialogue in "Thief" is top-notch from beginning to end, the cinematography is on spot and the soundtrack is second only to Bladerunner.
