The camera sound can't cope with this Grand Jeu with at 9 eight foot trumpets drawn. The organ at the console makes one jump - the sound is so shockingly loud.

This is part of the Symphonie Concertante by Lasceaux

  • How old is the instrument at the cathedral? What a glorious instrument!

  • @cromorne Hi! It's 1775 or so built by Isnard and is one of the seminal instruments in French organ building history . . . It's worth searching out good recordings of this glorious instrument - search "St Maximin Bach" for one of the Bach D minor that's very exciting.

  • I'm not gonna lie, I think I'd go deaf playing that many reeds at once. That said, if somebody wanted to install it in my basement I would not object. :D

  • Hi! Yes - it's really shocking. And the cromorne is right behind your back with only a panel of real antique pine which acts like a sideboard. Grand Jeu is truly deafening. I nearly jumped off the bench the first time I played a chord.
