Broadway's current "Wicked" star, Julia Murney, gets serious for a couple minutes (but only a couple) with Erich Bergen on Green Room Radio. She talks about how she thinks the internet is affecting modern musical theatre.

After seeing the madness on this site (especially with the 'Wicked' Musical fanatics), I thought this was relevant. She's talking about how critics were unreasonably hard on her show "Lennon", but I think what she says can totally apply to the way people slander performers. Especially the parts where she talks about people allowing the internet to define how they feel about a show without seeing it for themselves, and how people "breathe fire" when its not exactly how they think it should be. And yes, Julia does do an impersonation in this interview as well. Enjoy!

  • i totally would have loved to hear her killer Kristin Chenoweth impressionnnn

  • She does it on Julia Murney Talks "Wicked" (Part 2). It's one of my other vids.

  • whats happening in the photo on 2:15

  • It's just a publicity shot with Julia, Kendra Kassebaum, and Gregory Maguire. It was in the NY Times.

  • o kl i thought there was like some kinda horrible thing where she was like taking all the lime light and she was in the backround do you no what i mean

  • Hehe. No they're just chillin. Since Elphaba is the main character in the book they have her standing next to the author.

  • that is why the Pirate Queen got cut from broadway. it was an amazing show, but the critics HATED it so that's why it got cut. and the critics dont know what's good anymore, they dont like good, classic muscials anymore and like things like high school musical *shutters*

  • Aw, I'm sorry. :( I totally love this video because I hate it when people criticize and insult shows/musicals/actresses on the internet when they've never even seen them live! And usually, when those people actually go to see the show that they said they hated, they end up loving it! Stop insulting amazing actresses on the internet, people! Especially women who have played a role in Wicked!

  • I now love Julia WAAAAAAAAY more!! =D

  • i totally agree with her on this. i dont let internet people dictate what shows i see. i see what i want (and what i have $ for) i find what i like and spread the word, literally i speak to people about the show.

  • @STUPIDxxSITE yes, i did see the pirate queen. twice. i personally liked it and yes, i have to agree some of the songs kind of sucked if you actually listened to them. i posted that a while back and have actually gotten smarter when it comes to choosing my music. but i still enjoy some of the songs from the pirate queen and i must agree the ending was out of place...

  • @elphaba08457332233 Have you seen the Pirate Queen? Some of the music was amazing, but most of it was pretty bad. The ending was one of the worst I've seen. The only people I've heard talk good about it are Wicked fanatics who were just backing up Stephanie J. Block. And just because the composer and lyricist made Les Miserables, doesn't mean everything they do is good. If critics actually did like The Pirate Queen, then I would say what you said about them. But they didn't.
